Cobra Commander is up to his old world conquering tricks, which, to his credit, are usually one awesome step between implementation and domination. This time he enlists the Decepticon Starscream to get him to the Transformers’ home planet of Cybertron so he can steal a supercomputer that teleports things anywhere in the universe. Alas and alack, those plans are scuttled on the reef of conflict when G.I. Joe shows up and a gunfight damages the equipment. Both groups get sucked across the universe, with various random Cybertronians sent back to Earth in their place, but not their time. A couple of Autobots keep both the expedition and the exposition going (luckily, everyone on Cybertron speaks English). Thanks to the unstable nature of the universe, the humans have 12 relative hours to retrieve the displaced Transformers from their time–travelling destinations or the entire planet will be “washed in fire every ten years for the next four centuries.” Since that’d ruin Labor Day picnics for everyone, both teams agree to help, giving writer Dan Jolley some fun banter and neat resolutions in a book that’s a great candidate for a TV movie.
